A number of institutional models of virtual universities, i.e., a university without a specific campus where students attend courses in person, are briefly described, and examples are presented. Since students attending classes on a campus is quite different from students studying via Internet-linked computers, some of the aspects involving the impact of the medium on the dynamics and psychology of online interactions are discussed and summarized.
