Title: Content-Based Language Instruction in Second/Foreign Language Programs

Authors: Cunliffe, Brenda

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of content-based instruction and then to discuss the benefits of such an approach in the acquisition of second language. The paper first provides a description of content-based teaching, including its theoretical rationale, and then outlines its three main approaches and provides examples of each. The paper concludes with an argument for the extended implementation of content-based instruction within ESL/EFL programs.
